434th Agew na Pangasinan highlights linguistic heritage preservation

LINGAYEN–This year’s celebration of Agew na Pangasinan held every April 5 gave impetus on the creative and performing arts with the provincial government honoring the winners of the yearly literary contest “Kurit Panlunggaring”.

In celebrating the province’s 434th founding year, Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. called on Pangasinenses to reflect on the gains made during the previous years.

After decades of dormancy, Pangasinan has finally become one of the premier provinces of the country, a dramatic transformation achieved through the people’s collective and concerted efforts.

Espino earlier said Pangasinenses have become more conscious of their roots because of the various programs and projects which the present administration endeavored to introduce such as the “I Love Pangasinan” movement, Kurit Panlunggaring launched three years ago, and other innovative undertakings related to arts and cultural preservation.

Meanwhile, Sr. Mary John Mananzan, OSB who was a 2013 ASNA awardee and guest of honor in the commemorative program, hailed the Espino administration for the comprehensive transformation it has done to the province.

Winners in the 3rd Kurit Pnlunggaring Literary Contest in Pangasinan Language were: Poetry Writing (Adult Division) – 1st place, Alex Romeo R. Fernandez, Dagupan City); 2ndplace, Querimit Ocay, Mangaldan); 3rdplace, Alma Ariola Nepascua, Alaminos City.

For short story writing (adult division) winners include the following: 1st place Alex Romeo R. Fernandez; 2nd place Querimit Ocay, Mangaldan; 3rd place Lanie Mendoza Tomas, Binmaley.

On children’s story writing (adult division) winners are: 1st place Alvin S. De Guzman, Calasiao; 2nd place Alex Romeo R. Fernandez; 3rd place Alma Ariola Nepascua.

The winners in essay-writing were: 1st place Sharmaine Mutya S. Soriano, Binmaley; 2nd place Clarence Sydney De Guzman, San carlos City; 3rd place Charlene Kate Cayabyab, Dagupan City.

In poetry writing, winners were: 1st– Jayson D. Bustamante of Binmaley, 2nd– Marielle Alejo Melendez of Binmaley, 3rd– May-Ann B. Rendon of Alaminos City.

The commemorative program was highlighted with the launching of an audio-visual presentation on Pangasinan history which featured important eras starting from the pre-historic up to the Golden Age of Pangasinan where remarkable transformation took place and continues. (PIO)
