TWO boys and two girls from Pangasinan have been chosen to join in the Junior National Basketball Association (NBA) and Junior Women NBA National Training Camps in Manila from April 25 to 27.

Zoren Solis of Cherished Moments School in Mangaldan and Aaron Coquia of St. Albert the Great School in Dagupan will be among the representatives of North Luzon in the three-day boot camp while Dagupeña sisters Kristine Cayabyab of West Central Elementary School and Mary Ann Cayabyab of Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School will participate in the National Training Camp finalists in the first-ever Junior Women NBA program in the country.

The four joined the two-day regional selection camp of the Junior NBA and Junior Women NBA held at the CSI Stadia from March 29 to 30.

PBA Legend Jojo Lastimosa said the event is part of the NBA’s gratitude program in the Philippines developing young players from all over the country for a specialized basketball program.

“The Junior NBA program was also tasked to train coaches because it is important that the kids have good teachers,” said Lastimosa.

This year, the Junior NBA Philippines has expanded to include the Junior Women NBA for female players.

“Basketball is popular in the country but only for boys, so we are trying to get the girls into the sport,” Lastimosa said.

The National Training Camp will culminate with the selection of 10 Junior NBA and four Junior Women NBA All-Stars, providing these select campers with a unique NBA experience and the opportunity to play against a counterpart team from another country later in the year. (PIA1-Pangasinan/AMM)
