APRIL 30 ULTIMATUM ORDERED

TWENTY-FIVE of the 68 fish pens supposed to be covered by land titles with a combined area of 8.1 hectares were already demolished as of April 4,  a spokesman of Task Force Bantay Ilog reported.

Maximo Solis, technical consultant in the office of City Agriculturist Emma Molina, said the demolished fish pens were owned by different persons who earlier claimed their contraptions were built on their private properties covered by land titles and/or tax declarations.

CARTOONnews 140406However, the city government, on order of Mayor Belen Fernandez, decided to demolish all of these after due notice, asserting that since these are now located in rivers, they had become part of public domain.

The 25 fish pens were demolished by the task force in March.

The demolition of illegal fishpens in Dagupan’s rivers started in August last year.

Malaki na rin naman ang na-demolish namin,” said Solis.

APRIL 30 DEADLINE

The remaining fish pens are owned by persons who were given a new ultimatum to demolish their contraptions by April 30 this year to allow them time to harvest their milkfish and get a return on their investment.

Solis said the city government agreed to the extension as the owners have committed to undertake the demolition after April 30, saving the city money, time and effort.
