BAYAMBANG’S GUINNESS BID

WANTING to make sure that there will be enough freshwater fish to roast in a planned 7.7-kilometer grill in Bayambang, the provincial and municipal governments are tapping tilapia growers around Pangasinan to allot their harvest for the Malangsi Festival set on April 4.

Provincial Information Officer Butch Velasco said known growers of freshwater “tilapia” in various villages have already been asked to sell their harvests during that period to the town’s organizing committee.

Meanwhile, Bayambang Mayor Ricardo Camacho has also ordered a survey of tilapia farmers in the town and their expected harvests and requested them to reserve their fish for the municipality.

The provincial government has already allocated about 50,000 kilos of freshwater “tilapia”, with an estimated cost of P4 million, from its hatchery in support of the festival’s bid for a Guinness World Record for the longest grill.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has approved a resolution allowing the provincial government to support the month-long celebration while the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Bayambang  is also set to provide as its counterpart contribution an additional 10,000 kilos of fish.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. earlier said the success of the event will be as much the provincial government’s pride as that of Bayambang.

While preparations are underway for the culminating event, a trade fair expo in front of the Municipal Hall is ongoing.
