TEAMS representing Pangasinan 1 and 2 bagged a total of six gold and four silver medals in the boys and girls divisions in elementary and secondary schools, topping the recently concluded Region 1 Athletic Association Meet held at the Don Mariano Marcos State University (DMMSU) in Agoo, La Union on February 24-27.

Spearheaded by Rosales’ Samantha Glo Revita and San Fabian’s Danica Ablang who collected two gold medals each, and Precious Ferrer with one, the Pangasinenses checked all other Region 1 delegations.

Urdaneta City finished second place with four gold and two silver medals while San Carlos City got three gold and two bronze for third.

“Our local chessers including from the cities of San Carlos, Urdaneta and Dagupan will be sent to Palarong Pambansa this year,” said Don Juan Vicente Sison, president of the Pangasinan Chess League (PCL).

“My big thanks to Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. for holding numerous chess tilts in the province last year which sharpened the skills of our local bets that paved them the way to bag the gold and silver medals and eventually topped the R1AA meet this season,” he added.

PCL secretary-general German Francisco handled the locals.–JAGJr.
