DSWD accredits city’s day care centers
ALL the 41 Early Childhood Care Development Centers (ECCDCs) or Day Care Centers in Dagupan and their respective teachers have been registered, licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the United Nation International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) as of February 28.
Acting City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) chief Leah Aquino credited Mayor Belen Fernandez for the accomplishment as she ensured that all the ECCDCs meet standards not only in physical facilities but also on the educational tools provided.
ECCDCs accommodate children children aged four to five years.
Fernandez recently ordered City Engineer Virginia Rosario to plan the renovation of the centers and ensure that all required facilities are in place.
The painting of all the centers was sponsored by Boysen and all windows have been screened to protect the children from mosquito-borne diseases.
Republic Act No. 8980 or the Early Childhood Care and Development Act mandates the DSWD to register, license and accredit public and private ECCDCs as well as other service providers catering to children.
After Feb. 28, all ECCDCs that are not registered, licensed and accredited are considered colorums and therefore can be closed.
Of the 41 accredited ECCDCs in Dagupan, 20 were established by the City Supermarket Inc., a company owned by the mayor’s family as part of its corporate social responsibility program.
