THIRTY-THREE micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) producing goods under the One Town One Product (OTOP) program will receive equipment from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to improve the speed and quality of their production.

The beneficiaries from different towns and cities in Pangasinan have been chosen under the DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) program for 2014.

DTI provincial director Peter Mangabat said P34 million has been allocated this year for the purchase of the various equipment needed by the MSMEs.

Mangabat pointed out that most of the groups from District I and IV are into fish, vinegar, meat and salt processing as well as bayong-making while puto makers and those in the metal craft industry of Calasiao (District II and III) have been included.

The food testing laboratory in Binmaley is another beneficiary.

Last year, P13 million was spent to assist 13 groups.

Mangabat said recipient-MSMEs that register an increase in income will receive additional assistance from the DTI.

In 2013, the domestic sales of the 1,718 MSMEs nationwide aided by the agency reached P257 million.—Dada Austria
