IT’S a daily grind for the Mobile Library of Dagupan as it goes around the city’s Day Care Centers Monday to Friday to promote reading among the young.

The Balon Dagupan Mobile Library, launched last September 16, carries various books, mostly for children, and librarians hold storytelling sessions as well as encourage the kids to participate in coloring books, solving jigsaw puzzles, and other educational games.

City Librarian Rufina Meneses said one Day Care Center is covered daily with eight librarians alternately doing the rounds.

Mayor Belen Fernandez on occasion joins the activities and leads the storytelling herself.

“The children are very attentive,” said Meneses, citing that as of October 30, the City Library Office has served 908 Day Care pupils.

Fernandez’s education advocacy is embodied under the BELEN acronym, which stands for Bring Every child to school, Lead by mentoring, reading /tutoring, Enhanced education, Nurturing them for better future.

Dagupan has 46 Day Care Centers in various barangays equipped with children’s books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, toys and educational television.–Eva Visperas
