Pangasinan to receive national award for quality corn production

LINGAYEN — The province of Pangasinan has earned another national award.

This time the awrad was from the Department of Agriculture (DA) after it bagged the 1st National Quality Corn Achievers Awards (NQCAA)-provincial category.

This is the second time in a row that the DA conferred an outstanding award to Pangasinan this year.  The first was the Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers Awards last March 15.

In a confirmation letter sent by DA Regional Director Valentino C. Perdido to Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. last September 16, Pangasinan was among the top five provinces that made an outstanding contribution to the corn industry as far as production of quality corn is concerned.

The thorough evaluation process covered two cropping seasons for corn.

Espino was invited to receive the award on October 23 at Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City.

Other awardees include the towns of Bautista, Mangatarem, Bayambang, Malasiqui and city of San Carlos for municipal/city category.

Venancio B. Valeroso of Pangasinan was named Outstanding Provincial Coordinator while Sylvia L. Rosario of San Carlos City, Madonna C. Ignacio of Bautista, Nely F. Corpuz of Mangatarem, Marlon H. Palisoc of Malasiqui and Mercedes S. Peralta of Bayambang were adjudged Outstanding Municipal Corn Coordinators.

Pangasinan won honors for its top agricultural extension workers, namely:  Lydia Macaraeg of Malasiqui; Linda V. Tirao, San Carlos City; and Alicia S. Noche, Sta. Barbara.
