URDANETA CITY— A member of a private armed group (PAG) who was in the watchlist of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) was arrested in the evening of September 4, here.

Giovani Almonte, tagged as one of PPPO’s most wanted, was arrested by Urdaneta City Police Station operatives by virtue of an arrest warrant.

According to PPPO Director PSSupt. Marlou Chan, Almonte has been involved in a series of shooting incidents in Urdaneta City.

Almonte, who hails from Asingan town, is also one of the suspects in the grenade throwing incident at the residence of Mayor Amadeo “Bobom” Perez IV.

Police records also show that last May 20, with the implementation of a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, one hand-grenade was confiscated.

The suspect is now facing murder charges, a non-bailable offense.

Chan said their work does not end with the filing of cases but in the “successful prosecution of the cases filed” as the PPPO aims for higher conviction rate.

Chan further assured, “We have task force to address the problems of guns for hire and PAGs.”–Johanne R. Macob
