Kapitan, four others arrested for illegal possession of firearms

OPLAN KATOK BACK IN OPERATION

LINGAYEN—The police are back in action with Oplan Katok to round up loose firearms in preparation for the October 28 barangay election.

Last September 25, a barangay chairman and four others were arrested along with the confiscation of various loose firearms and ammunitions in their possession.

Arrested was Kapitan Reynel Carpio of Barangay San Isidro and confiscated from him were one caliber .45 pistol Ruger, three magazine assembly for cal .45 pistol, 36 pieces live ammunitions for cal .45, three pieces live ammunitions for  Cal .380 pistol, two pieces live ammunitions for 9mm pistol, two pieces live ammunitions for 50 Caliber, two pieces long improvised glass totters, seven pieces crumpled aluminum foil, 17 pieces small transparent plastic sachets, one lighter and 21 pieces glass pipe totters.

Also nabbed were Miguel Vitente of Barangay Malilion with a caliber super 38 pistol viper, seven live ammunition and one magazine for the calibre; Manolito Serquiña of Barangay Sto. Thomas with eight magazines for M16 rifle, two magazines for caliber .45, two pieces live ammunitions for 12 -gauge shotgun, three pieces live ammunitions for Carbine, nine pieces of live ammunitions for Caliber 9mm, 94 pieces live ammunitions for M16 and 18 pieces live ammunitions for caliber. 45; Sancris Leal of San Felipe East with one caliber .45 pistol Armscor, 17 live ammunitions and two magazines for the calibre; and Mark Neil Carpio of Zone 3 San Isidro with one caliber .45 Armscor with one magazine assembly loaded with four live ammunitions.

Eddie Sebastian of Malilion evaded arrest but his house was searched and lawmen seized seven live ammunitions and three pieces empty shells for caliber. 45.

Police Supt. Rhode Espero, Pangasinan Provincial Public Safety Company commander, said joint police elements simultaneously implemented seven search warrants in different barangays in San Nicolas town issued by Judge Renato Pinlac of Regional Trial Court branch 57 based in San Carlos City.

Cases of illegal possession of firearms and violation of Dangerous Drugs Act were filed against the suspects, including Sebastian.

Espero warned gun owners whose licenses were not renewed to expect a similar operation against them.–Eva Visperas
