JUST A TEXT, CALL, EMAIL AWAY

PANGASINAN’S farmers, fisherfolks and those interested in the trade can now seek answers on concerns relating to the industry via a text message, a call, or e-mail to the government’s Farmer’s Contact Center (FCC).

The FCC toll free hotline is 1-800-10-982-2474; Smart and Talk n Text subscribers can use 391-32; Globe, TM and Sun subscribers can use 0920-946-2474.

Launched in November 2010, the FCC is intended as an alternative delivery channel for farm and business advisory services and serves as a help desk on farming and fishing technologies, including programs and services of the Department of Agriculture.

Rogelio Evangelista, Region 1 director for the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) that handles the FCC, said the contact center aims to maximize the use of information technology to attain a modernized agricultural and fisheries sector.

“We aim to make farmers not just farmers but as agri-preneurs. Farming will be a business and they could still have other income,” said Evarista during the Consultation –Workshop on Maximizing the Services of FCC held in Sta. Barbara town Wednesday.

FCC Coordinator Maricel Dacapias said agents at the ATI central office answer calls but a pool of agricultural experts are on hand to answer queries.

The FCC website is info@e-extension.gov.ph (PIA1-Pangasinan/VHS)
