THE Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Cenpelco) is expanding its service area to provide electricity to 133 areas that are far from the central part of barangay.

Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, Cenpelco officer-in-charge manager, said setting up the infrastructure will start next week and scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The project will be partly funded from the sitio electrification project of the national government.

Cenpelco’s total coverage area of 15 towns are currently fully energized using 60 percent of its available power capacity, leaving 40 percent still available for expansion.

Among the top power consumers are the towns of Mangatarem, Sual, and Bugallon.

Apart from these three, Cenpelco serves the municipalities of Aguilar, Labrador, Lingayen, Binmaley, Mangaldan, Urbiztondo, Malasiqui, Basista, Bayambang, Bautista, and Alcala; and the city of San Carlos.

At the same time, Corpuz assured members that the cooperative is in good financial standing and able to meet its loan obligations made to restore damaged facilities caused by Typhoon Cosme in 2008.

Cenpelco‘s current cost of power is P4.70 per kWh while transmission charge is about P1.20 per kwh. –Eva Visperas and Johanne R. Macob
