MOTHERS in Dagupan cooked their “best nutritional recipes” during the Pasiklaban sa Pagluluto, a competition conducted by the City Nutrition Office (CNO) as the culminating event for the 39th Nutrition Month Celebration.

City Nutrition Officer and OIC City Social Welfare and Development Officer Leah L. Aquino presented the awards to the winning participants whose recipes were judged based on originality, presentation, palatability, and nutritive value.

Clinching first place was the beef sigarilyas prepared by barangay health workers Grace Obillo and Natividad Adaban. In second place was tortang monggo with meat and malunggay leaves of Vilma G. Camacho and Perla Lopez who are both barangay nutrition scholars of the city. Coming in third was the “3 in 1 vegetable with talaba” recipe.

Nutrition Month is an annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness on nutrition among Filipinos under Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines.

“This year’s celebration focuses on hunger which underscores the need for active multi-stakeholder participation to address the basic causes of hunger,” said Mayor Belen Fernandez who joined the event as guest speaker. (CIO)
