Hundred Islands makeover begins

LINGAYEN—The Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) in Alaminos City is undergoing a makeover, starting off with Quezon Island.

The city government under the new administration of Mayor Arthur Celeste considers the HINP restoration as its major tourism activity, according to City Tourism Officer Miguel Sison.

Cleaning and clearing operations of the Quezon Island is now underway after privately-owned cottages were demolished to give way to a better view of the island’s contour.

Last July 24, the mayor conducted an ocular inspection of the islands followed by a meeting with the concessionaires of the old cottages.

“There was no problem with the demolition of their cottages. The concessionaires were very amenable to it for the betterment of the Hundred Islands,” Sison said.

The city government plans to construct two guesthouses and four gazebos on the island.

Each guest house is allocated a budget of P1.5 to 2 million while P150,000 will be spent for each gazebo and are expected to be completed by December.

The city government will showcase the guesthouses to potential investors who can build similar houses in the other islands.

Under the planned scheme, investors and donors will have free access anytime to their guesthouses, but the structures will be owned and managed by the city tourism office.

The city government is also currently in consultation with some foreign investors for improvements and the management of the Hundred Islands Hotel in Barangay Lucap.

Meanwhile, all the eateries in the Park will be moved to one location for easier regulation.

“It will also lead to a good waste management,” added Sison.
