4 arrested in Urdaneta for rice swindling

URDANETA CITY—Two businesswomen here complained to the police that they were swindled by four persons whom they accused of delivering fake premium rice that were also grossly underweight.

The complaint was lodged by Rofel Caoile, 40, a businesswoman of Barangay Pinmaludpud, and Alona Obando 47, of Dona Olympia Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Domingo, both in Urdaneta City.

The accused are: Dexter Galicia, Jayvee Galicia; Allan Abalos, all of Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; Terencio Hayas, 53, of Bagong Sikat Ligid, Tipas, Taguig City; and Rodolfo Borja Bayani, 56, of Pateros, Metro Manila.

The suspects are alleged to have sold and delivered fake Jasmine Rice, which cost only P1,600 per bag, lower than the usual P2,200 per bag for that variety.

When the victims checked the goods, they found that it is not the original Jasmine Rice and weighed only 35 kilos per bag instead of 50 kilos.

The suspects, riding on a Toyota Tamaraw FX, were trapped by the police inside Dona Olympia Subdivision.

A complaint for Estafa/Swindling is now being readied against the suspects before the Prosecution Office in Urdaneta City.
