Resuellos preparing stronger case on dad’s murder

SAN CARLOS CITY—It’s not over until it’s over.

Thus said the Resuello family, six years after the gun slaying of their patriarch, then Mayor Julian Resuello, to indicate that the family is not giving up the fight for justice against the perpetrators.

Resuello’s son, incumbent Mayor Julier Resuello, told local newsmen during the sixth death anniversary of his father last April 30, that “there’s no development yet and we’re just in the midst of preparing a stronger case against them (the suspects).”

The mayor said the family will re-file the case after the May 13 elections so that their political opponents, whom they suspect to be behind the killing of the father, cannot not accuse them of political harassment.

The previous murder case filed against the suspects, including former mayor Douglas Soriano, was dismissed a year and a half ago by the court.

Soriano is running against Resuello for mayor in the coming polls.

“But that (dismissal of the case) is perhaps okay so we can present a stronger case against them,” Resuello said.

The young Resuello, who was vice mayor at the time of his father’s murder, won handily in the 2007 mayoralty elections.

The elder Resuello was shot point blank at the city auditorium during a public gathering for the fiesta celebration.

“Every day, that scene flashes back in my memory especially now that the election is here again,” the mayor said.–Eva Visperas
