THE Dagupan City Police Station received a VIP guest last week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region I Director Chief Supt. Ricardo Marquez.

Marquez visited the city station and other stations in the province to check and evaluate the station’s facilities and to review the PNP’s new deployment schemes with the personnel.

“A commander must know exactly ano ‘yong mga status ng equipment and facilities. Number 2, I need to explain to all my personnel ‘yong mga bagong deployment scheme na gingawa namin…” said Marquez.

One of the new deployment plans it to prompt all police officers to be conscious about the need to maximize the police visibility in the streets. “If one is done with office duties, he or she must go out and walk the streets,” he pointed out as he cited the benefit of constant walking to one’s health.

He also directed police stations to plan for area security of campaign sorties and rallies of candidates the campaign period.

Meanwhile, Marquez confirmed that “special focus” is trained on Pangasinan being one of the 15 priority provinces. The “special focus” means there is an augmentation of personnel from the regional and national headquarters.

Although he noted that the rate of insurgency has come down, Marquez called attention to the solution of unsolved crimes particularly those incidents recorded in previous election years as 2004, 2007, 2010.  Those factors, he said, were considered in the inclusion of the province in the list of priority areas.- Johanne R.
