LINGAYEN—More than 200 pregnant Pangasinenses have availed of the free services offered by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Foundation), Inc. Region I Chapter in coordination with the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on March 8 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here.

Dr. Ana Maria Teresa de Guzman, PHO Chief, earlier said the project dubbed Buntis Congress is in line with the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Month.

De Guzman said the project primarily aims to inculcate awareness among pregnant women on safe motherhood and likewise lessen maternal-mortality rate among Pangasinense mothers.

Pregnant women have availed of the following services for free: pre-natal check-up, laboratory services and PhilHealth enrollment advocacy, one of the priority projects of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.’s administration.

Mothers were also treated to lectures on cervical cancer, pre-natal care, and proper nutrition.

“We have to awaken the consciousness of Pangasinense women on safe motherhood and on the importance of breastfeeding thus this project is fully supported by the governor who is an advocate of wellness and good health,” De Guzman said.

The event was highlighted by raffle draws after the program proper. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
