Schools Press Conference 2013 kicks off

URDANETA City—The annual Regional Schools Press Conference kicked off on February 13 with a three-day campus journalism contest held here.

More than 4,600 budding student-writers from 13 school divisions in Region 1 joined the parade around this city before the start of the opening program and later competed in various categories.

The categories were news writing, feature, editorial, editorial cartooning, copy reading and photojournalism.

During the opening program, Regional Director Teresita Velasco of the Department of Education urged the students to uphold the ethics of journalism and do their best in their respective categories

The top three writers in every category will represent the region in the National Schools Press Conference which will be held in Ormoc City on April 7-12 this year.

The judging for the best school paper was conducted earlier at the Regional Educational Learning Center in La Union.

The RSPC, formerly known as Regional Schools Secondary Press Conference (RSSPC), is an annual competition and considered the highest competition for journalism in the regional level. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
