Marquez named Police Region 1 director
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO–Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez formally assumed office as new Police Region 1 Office (PRO 1) director vice Chief Supt Franklin Bucayu starting January 10.
Marquez, formerly assigned at the Directorate for Operations in Camp Crame, was already actually installed as the new PRO1 director last January 8 at the national headquarters in Camp Crame in a ceremony presided over by the Chief Police Director General Alan Purisima.
In a speech during his assumption of office, Marquez said that even if police work is like “a paradox of contradiction, the entire Region 1 force must even do extra-ordinary things out of the demands of public service”.
At the same time, he stressed that this is his most challenging assignment so far considering the accomplishments of his predecessor.
“With the support from the community, we shall continue to make this place a safer place to live, and to do business, especially that election period is only a couple of days at hand, just like what my predecessor Chief Supt Bucayu did,” he said.
The ceremonial turn over coincided with the awarding of a plaque of appreciation to Bucayu by the Association of Regional Executives (AREX), another certificate of appreciation from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council 1 (RDRRMC-1) and the“Pammadayaw Award” given by the leaders of Civil Service Commission, Philippine Ports Authority, and Public Information Agency.
The awards were given in recognition of Bucayu’s exemplary achievements and positive outputs during his two year-stint as PRO1 director.
In his speech, Bucayu underscored the contributions of the men and women of PRO1, members of the Directorial Staff, other senior officers, police commissioned officers, police non- commissioned officers, non uniformed personnel, including the civilians, the military, religious sectors and other private sectors.
After the turn-over rites, a command conference was immediately held where Marquez ordered commanders of the Regional Special Operations task Groups (RSOTGs), all police units and offices under his command to do their best to ensure a secure and fair election by neutralizing partisan armed groups, accounting for loose firearms and arresting most wanted persons and members of criminal gangs.
