FLOODING IN CITY BUSINESS DISTRICT

THE upgrade of roads in the business district of Dagupan City is among the top priorities for this year of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) second engineering district to address the perennial flooding in the area during high tide and continuous rains.

District engineer Rodolfo Dion said P49 million has been allotted for the elevation of the A.B. Fernandez Avenue, where most of the business establishments in the city are located.

“We will elevate the road from the city plaza to M.H. del Pilar up to 40 centimeters to ensure that the business district will no longer be flooded,” Dion said.

At the same time, part of the budget will be used for the repair of sidewalks and to put up streetlights.

Dion said they are now coordinating with the city government to plan for rerouting schemes during the construction, which is scheduled to start by the last week of February or early March.

“As early as now, we are asking the public for consideration for this project might again cause heavy traffic. Anyway, this will only last for 120 days provided that there will be no disturbances such as bad weather,” Dion appealed.

The road upgrade will be complemented by the dredging of parts of Pantal River, particularly from Pantal Bridge to the Magsaysay Market, with a budget of P10 million.
