THE Dagupan government and the city’s Filipino-Chinese community are jointly organizing the festivities to welcome the Chinese New Year beginning February 10.

Mayor Benjamin S. Lim and City Tourism Officer Rose Mary Teng-Mejia met with fellow Sino-descent sector representatives last January 16 to discuss the details of the celebration, which will usher in the reign of the Water Snake in the Chinese Zodiac Calendar.

Jumpstarting the festival is a whole-day medical mission on the 10th.

Festival staples such as the Lion dance, Chinese mass, cultural show and grand fireworks display will be held February 11.

“This is to share the Chinese culture to the Dagupeños,” Teng-Mejia said.

Spearheading this year’s celebration is the Dagupan Chinese-Filipino Community Association-Panda Volunteer Fire Brigade in partnership with the city government thru the City Tourism Office. (CIO)
