By December 3, 2012Headlines, News

SHELLFISH from the waters of the western towns of Anda and Bolinao have tested positive for red tide toxin and the public has been advised to refrain from harvesting and consuming these sea products.

But fish, squids, shrimps and crabs from these areas are safe for human consumption, provided they are fresh and washed thoroughly and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking, according to Nestor Domenden, regional director of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 1.

Domenden said BFAR, in coordination with local government units, will continuously monitor the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda to safeguard public health and protect the fishery industry.–Eva Visperas
