Pangasinan triathlon team makes its mark

THE newly-formed Pangasinan Triathlon Team based in Dagupan City engaged other multi-sport athletes from Japan, Malaysia, Iran, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries in this year’s Asian Duathlon Championships (ADC) at SBMA Subic, last November 23, 2012.

The ADC is a qualifying race for the World Duathlon Championships to be held in Cali Colombia in 2013.

Dagupan’s Manolito “Nol” Espino garnered first place after beating all entries in the 55-59 male age group to the finish line.

It was a two-for-two win for Espino, and reigned champion in the UNILAB Active Health SCTEX Duathlon held in Clark Field Pampanga last September 9 2012, which featured a longer 8k Run – 60k bike- and 5k run.

In the sprint category, the overall Women’s category saw a wild battle for podium places, and Dagupan’s Cicel Reyna took 5th place overall against a highly competitive field.

Other members who also garnered top ten places in their respective age groups were Philip Balagot (7th, 25-29), Jayson Del Rosario (8th, 30-34), Rey Ordonez (6th, 40-44), Jun Asis (10th, 45-49), and Butch Ydia (6th, 50-55).

The duathlon race, with its run-bike-run format offered the Sprint category (5k Run-20k Bike-3k run) and the Standard category (10k run – 40k bike- 5k Run) for the Elite level, Under 23, and Age-Groupers.
