Bautista tops Balitok A Tawir

LINGAYEN—The municipality of Bautista leads this year’s winners in the province’s Culture and Arts Festival dubbed “Balitok A Tawir”.

Officials and employees from Agno, Bautista, Burgos, Laoac, Mabini, Natividad, Umingan, Urdaneta City, San Manuel, and San Nicolas were among those who performed during the event held at the Sison Auditorium December 7.

The three different categories featured were Kansiyonan (chorale competition), Sayawan (creative dance competition), and Sarsuela (zarzuela competition).

The winners for the three events are (in first, second, third place order): Kansiyonan: Bautista, Agno, Urdaneta City; Sayawan: Urdaneta City, San Nicolas, Bautista; and Sarsuela: Bautista (Monumento na Pangasinan), Mabini (Rebulton Naipalagey Ed Puso).

In the Kansiyonan category, contestants gave their rendition and own arrangements of Pangasinan songs such as Malinac Lay Labi and Balintawak.

Dances that tell stories of the ways of life of Pangasinenses like courtship and farming were performed in the Sayawan segment while the past and the present of Pangasinan were portrayed Sarsuela drama competition.

Seven groups battled in the chorale completion, eight in the creative dance, and two presented in the zarzuela.

Special awards in each event will be given to: Kansiyonan Best Conductor – Bautista, Best in Musical Chorale Arrangement – Agno; and Best in Execution of Repertoire – Bautista; Sayawan Best in Costume – Urdaneta City, Best in Choreography – San Manuel, and Best in Concept- Mabini; and Sarsuela Best Female Actor – Bautista, Best Male Actor – Mabini, and Best Interpretation – Bautista.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. thanked all those who participated and supported the event and emphasized that the preservation of the province’s culture is mainly for the next generation and for Pangasinenses abroad. “Anta da tan natalusan da yan kultura ya tanda na pagkaPangasinense tayo (know and understand this culture that is the mark of being a Pangasinanense),” Espino said.

The awarding ceremony will be held December 17, the LGU night of the province’s Christmas celebration.– Johanne Margarette R Macob
