DAGUPAN Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez was honored with the Blood Services Platinum Award by the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan chapter last September 3 for gathering more than 1,000 units of blood in mobile donations she organized and in her behalf.

The award, the highest given by Red Cross Pangasinan, was handed by Chapter Administrator Florame Magalong and Dr. Viven Villaflor, chairman of the board of directors, to Fernandez during the group’s 33^rd biennial chapter assembly held at the CSI Stadia.

Fernandez is a strong advocate for blood donation and for years has been initiating blood- letting activities participated in by employees of her family-owned CSI Group of Companies in coordination with Pangasinan Red Cross.

She also convinced her family to bankroll the construction of an extension building of the PRC chapter that now houses the Regional Blood Bank Center.

Other individuals from the academe as well as groups supportive of Red were also recognized during the celebration.—Eva Visperas
