DESPITE the battering of the Ilocos Region by typhoons in the past weeks, there is a steady supply of rice and enough stock for the lean months, according to the National Food Authority Region 1 office.

Moreover, NFA Region I Director Piolito C. Santos said rice prices remain stable based on the agency’s monitoring.

The retail price of rice in the region remains at P28.00 to P37.00 per kilogram and NFA rice is still being sold at a retail price of P27.00 per kilogram.

“We are confident that with a steady supply of rice from both the government and the traders, there would be no increase in the retail price of rice in the coming months,” Santos said.

Santos also said the NFA is ready to provide rice requirements for relief operations by local government units (LGUs) and other relief agencies in areas affected by flooding.

He urged LGUs to enter into a Rice Loan Memorandum of Agreement with the NFA for the provision of their rice requirements.
