Province hit by P396M infra, agri damages

THE Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) reported on August 13 that damages to infrastructure and agriculture due to the non-stop monsoon rains and consequent flooding in different parts of Pangasinan has reached Php396 million.

Four people died due to the recent calamity and one was reported injured.

The rains continued last week as Storm Signal no. 1 was raised over the province with the passing of Typhoon “Helen”.

The damage to infrastructure is estimated at about P71 million for provincial roads, PP90.8 million on provincial bridges, and P.5 on national roads and bridges.

The PDRRMC reported that all barangay roads as well as the main roads going to and from Pangasinan are already passable except for the Bayambang-Camiling road, which is under renovation.

Loss on crops such as palay and corn is estimated at more than Php198 million, fishery more than Php34 million, and livestock, about P.5 million.

Several houses were either partially damaged or completely swept away.

During the monsoon rains, three evacuation centers served as shelter to 592 displace people from 135 families.

More than 62,000 families from a total of 329 barangays of 20 municipalities/cities were affected

The badly-hit towns were Dasol, Aguilar, Bugallon, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Lingayen, Bayambang, Calasiao, and Bautista.

The Provincial Health Office Support Team, meanwhile, has distributed 522 boxes of medicines, provided health counseling at the evacuation centers, and monitored possible cases of Acute Gastroenteritis and Leptospirosis.—with reports from PIA-Pangasinan and Johannee R. Macob

FLOOD SUBSIDING

A report of the PDRRMC showed that flood continues to subside in many areas of Pangasinan, allowing some evacuees to return to their homes.

However, evacuation centers in the towns of Calasiao, Lingayen and Sta. Barbara are still active.

At the same time, main thoroughfares and provincial roads in the province are now passable to all types of vehicles.

However, the Bayambang-Camiling road, remains temporarily closed due to repairs. Likewise, the Longos Bridge in San Fabian town is not passable to heavy vehicles because it is also under construction.

A flood bulletin from the Agno River Flood Forecasting and Warning System (ARFFWS) based in Rosales showed that the flood waters along the Agno River Basin and Allied Rivers like the Sinocalan, Inglatera and Tagamusing Rivers have receded.

Flooding remains in low-lying areas of Sta. Barbara, Calasiao, Binmaley, Binalonan, Malasiqui and cities of Dagupan and Urdaneta.

Flooding has slowly subsided in low-lying areas of Mapandan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Laoac, Manaoag, Sison and Pozorrubio.

Water is also receding along the Bued, Patalan, Angalacan and Aloragat Rivers as well as in low-lying areas of Alcala, Bautista, Bayambang, San Carlos City, Urbiztondo, Mangatarem, Aguilar, Bugallon, Labrador and Lingayen.
