A SPORTS program that includes regular competitions has been set by PRISAA (Private Schools Athletic Association) Region 1 for the academic year 2012-2013 to help prepare college student-athletes for the PRISAA National Collegiate Games on February 10-15, 2013, to be hosted by Pangasinan.

The program covers 13 out of the 17 individual and team sports disciplines that are included in the national games.

These are: For men only – basketball, boxing and sepak takraw; men and women – athletics, beach volleyball, volleyball, chess, badminton, lawn tennis, karatedo, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo.

The first place winners in the programmed competitions will advance to the next level of competitions, the penultimate of which will be the PRISAA Regional Collegiate Games on October 26-28 this year, also to be held in Pangasinan.

In athletics and swimming, however, only winners who are able to establish the best or nearest qualifying time standard set by the National PRISAA will be able to advance.

Meanwhile, the holding of the 22nd Season of the PRISAA-UCAAP Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championships, which usually kicks off in July, may be scrapped or deferred due to matters affecting technical officials.—Philamer C. Celi
