Pangasinan athletes prepare for Palarong Pambansa

LINGAYEN–Pangasinan athletes have started to prepare for the 2012 Palarong Pambansa by showing their physical prowess and capabilities in the 6th Pangasinan Division Olympic Games held February 15 to 18 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here.

Pangasinan will again host of the national games on May 6 to 12 this year after 17 years.

Bannering the theme ‘Pangasinan I Olympic Games 2012: Bridging Unity, Teamwork and Excellence through Sports’, the three-day activity brought together athletic associations of public elementary and secondary schools in Pangasinan to compete in the spirit of true sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The qualified and selected delegates represented the municipalities of Agno, Aguilar, Anda, Binmaley, Bani, Basista, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bolinao, Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Labrador, Lingayen, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, Sual and Urbiztondo.

Eeach delegation was full of vigor and enthusiasm as they paraded and cheered around the NRSCC oval accompanied by their respective municipal officials, drum and lyre groups and the games’ officials and coaches.

The athletes lit the symbolic urn while Lingayen Mayor Ernesto Castaneda hoisted the Pangasinan I banner.

Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim called on the participants to unite as one Pangasinan, encouraging them to consider themselves as the ‘salt’ that gives superior and delicious taste to provincial government programs.

Schools Division Superintendent Aurora Domingo declared the formal opening of the division’s Olympic games followed by the traditional releasing of balloons. (PIO)
