BUSINESSES in Dagupan have been given an extended deadline to February 20 for the renewal of their mayor’s permit and payment of local taxes.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed an ordinance (No.973-2012) last week setting the extension from the original January 20 deadline.

Authored by Councilors Jeslito Seen, chairman on finance, and Alipio Serafin Fernandez, chairman on laws and ordinances, the measure is intended to give a month’s breathing space to local entrepreneurs on their tax dues.

The two councilors cited the letter of Elvira Gutierrez, president of the Pangasinan Association of Bookkeepers and Accountants (PABA) with more than 5,000 clients in the city, sent as early as November 25, 2011 seeking the extension of the deadline for their clients.

Ordinance No. 1973-2012 also took into consideration the businesses’ extra expenses in December such as the employees’ 13th month pay, bonuses and other incentives as well as other costs in line with the holidays which “makes it difficult for some businessmen to comply with the present business tax payment deadline”.

In previous years, there has been a record of difficulties among small, medium and even large enterprises in meeting the January 20 deadline.

The two councilors expressed hope that with the extension, businessmen will more easily be able to meet their dues.
