NFA assures stable price of rice

PRICE of rice should remain stable as there is enough supply in the province, according to the National Food Authority (NFA).

Dr. Beverlyn Peralta, NFA Western Pangasinan provincial manager, said the NFA has 60,000 bags of rice in their storehouses and 860,000 bags of palay that could be milled and yield about 600,000 bags.

The price of rice remains stable at P27 per kilo, while palay is sold at P17 per kilo.

The NFA stock is good for at least 46 days of the household demand in the province.

Peralta added that this could last longer considering that commercial rice traders also hold stocks.

With the sufficient and stable supply, NFA Pangasinan has not bought palay from commercial traders and importers, nor received allocation from the national office this year.

Peralta attributed the sufficiency to higher yields due to improved techniques in farming, harvesting, milling and storage.

Imported rice bought last year also augmented the supply, she added. (PIA-Pangasinan)
