THE planned Tri-City Tourism Development involving the cities of Alaminos and Dagupan in Pangasinan and San Fernando in La Union will finally push through with the recent go-signal from the Regional Development Council (RDC).

At the same time, the Executive Committee of RDC Region 1 also approved for implementation the Agno River Basin Watershed-Coastal Area Management Program (IARB-CAM).

The National Economic and Development Authority Region 1 Office as the secretariat of RDC-1 is now expected to finalize the two proposed projects for implementation, including coordination among all stakeholders.

The Tri-City Tourism Development Project intends to link the development and promotion of the tourism destinations in the three cities and adjacent municipalities to attract more visitors to the area.

It will integrate the tourism destinations in these areas into a single package to promote the historical, cultural, religious and natural attractions.

This is a component of the Tourism Area Plan for the four provinces of Region 1that also includes Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

The project will involve the construction or improvement of port facilities for the ferry system between the three cities, full development of the tourism attractions, and community organizing.

AGNO PROJECT

Meanwhile, the Agno river basin serves as the lifeblood of a big part of northwestern Luzon, supplying major portions of water in the Cordillera Autonomous Region and, Regions 1 and 3.

However, the basin is currently faced with a growing strain on water quality, water quantity and water space brought about by competing demands for water.

The IARB-CAM will put in place an inter-regional management program that will cover the affected upland, lowland and coastal areas for the Agno River basin watershed to sustainably conserve, protect, and rehabilitate the Agno River basin.

The project components are watershed resources improvement, watershed protection, disaster/hazard mitigation, wetlands and coastal area management, livelihood opportunities, and legislative and policy agenda.

The RDC is also currently assessing other proposals for Agribusiness Development that will focus on strategic commodities.
