DOES your company employ persons with disabilities (PWDs)?

Information, Education and Communications Division Chief Rizalio Sanchez of the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA) stressed that PWDs — those who have restricted or differentiated abilities due to mental, physical, or sensory impairment — are protected by law to receive equal employment opportunities to able-bodied ones.

The Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities, contained in Republic Act 9443, provides PWDs with the same rights as any other citizen, including the right to be properly integrated in a functional society.

Speaking over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, Sanchez also explained that private companies who employ PWDs enjoy incentives.

She said a private employer, per the Magna Carta, is entitled to 25 percent tax deduction for employees’ salaries and wages and another 50 percent for expenses incurred to make the workplace PWD-friendly,” he said.

The NCDA led the observance of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week with the theme ‘Making the Rights Real for Filipinos with Disabilities’ last week  (PND GGPIA- PIA)
