Handwritten Bible in Pangasinan eyed
A COPY of the Roman Catholic bible in Pangasinan language will be prepared and produced the old-fashioned way – handwritten.
Bishop Renato Mayugba, speaking during the KBP Forum on Thursday, said the project is part of the campaign dubbed “Handwritten Unity Bible” (HUB) to “enhance solidarity among Christians” and promote different languages and dialects.
The HUB, spearheaded by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in cooperation with the Philippine Bible Society, will need around 35,000 individuals to write each verse of the Bible in English and the same number for the Pangasinan language.
A total of six or seven sessions will be conducted until the Bible is completed. The manuscripts are expected to be finished by 2013 and will be reproduced for distribution, while the original copies will be stored in a museum in Manila for posterity.
Mayugba said registration fees will be collected from the participants, who may include non-Catholics.
Dagupan City officials have already confirmed their participation in the event.
The project was launched in Manila in 2010, and Dagupan is the second city in Region I to conduct this event after Vigan.
The project will be launched in Dagupan on June 11 with a motorcade from the St. Therese Church in Rizal to the old St. John the Evangelist Chapel, where the transcription will take place.
Alaminos and Urdaneta City will soon follow. (PIA-Pangasinan)
