2011 PALARONG PAMBANSA

LINGAYEN–The provincial government is optimistic on winning the bid to host the Palarong Pambansa next year citing Pangasinan’s two advantages over the two other top contenders.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan said Pangasinan has more to offer in terms of facilities and experience than Mindoro Oriental and Negros Oriental, the two provinces keen on hosting the games as well.

Baraan, with Board Members Jeremy Rosario and Ranjit Shahani, formalized Pangasinan’s bid before the Department of Education (DepEd) when they attended this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City.

“We have the capability, the experience and the determination to host the Palarong Pambansa anew,” said Baraan.

Pangasinan’s first and last time to host the national sporting event was in 1995 when President Fidel Ramos, a native son of Lingayen, was head of government.

The Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, a sports complex built for the 1995 Palarong Pambansa, underwent rehabilitation in previous years during the administration of Governor Amado Espino Jr. as part of his administration’s sports development program.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said while there are many provinces bidding as next year’s host, Pangasinan, Negros Oriental and Mindoro Oriental are currently the top three choices.

A DepEd technical committee will visit the three provinces within the next few weeks and an executive committee will meet in June to finalize the decision.

Baraan said Pangasinan has the capability to organize the games even with just a two-week notice. –LM
