Bangus Festival is Dagupenos concept

THE first Bangus Festival in 2003 was conceptualized by Dagupenos.

This was the contention of Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim who downplayed his role as the initiator of the festival.

“The true “father of the Bangus Festival” are the people of Dagupan,” he said during the opening program.

Lim pointed out that it was during the stakeholders of the city in a visioning exercise 11 years ago during his first term as mayor, that a festivity “as uniquely Dagupan” was conceptualized.

“It was then that Bangus Festival came about,” Lim said.

The Bangus Festival has since become one of the country’s biggest festivals, attracting thousands of visitors every year.

“We are launching another project this year, which will surely hold the interest of our tourists to come to Dagupan and see for themselves the beauty and the serenity of our rivers by riding the first river cruise in Northern Luzon”, said Lim.

He added that this year’s celebration has taken a different tact by making the private sector lead in the management of this year’s festivity. Maximo Alexis Tan and Alex Siapno were named co-chairmen of the executive committee.

The traditional ‘Kalutan ed Dalan’ will again be held at the whole stretch of A.B. Fernandez Avenue, the original venue.

The Bangus Festival opened last March 29 and will be concluded on April 30.
