SINGAPORE-based Pangasinenses who are there as overseas workers can acquire entrepreneurial skills for free through the non-government organization ASKI Global Ltd.

ASKI Global was recently established in Singapore by the Luzon-based Alalay Sa Kaunlaran Inc. to help overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) there make sound investments from their earnings.

“Our ultimate goal is to assist Filipinos in Singapore by giving them training courses that could help in their work, personal and strengthening of family values. The organization will also assist them in establishing their own business enterprises in the Philippines to provide additional source of income for their families,” said Rolando B. Victoria, executive director of ASKI Philippines and chair of the ASKI Global.

A study conducted by the organization show that many OFWs remain poor as their remittances are not put into investments that will generate additional income.

Among ASKI Global’s free training programs cover education on basic entrepreneurship for beginners and customized courses on specific businesses for those who have plans to start a business in the Philippines.

Other courses are: personal financial management, which includes forecasting and budgeting, savings and investing, and financial analysis.

The National University of Singapore-Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (NUS-CESP) is working with ASKI Global Ltd. to include the fourth year business students in the training of OFWs, both professional and non-professional.

Filipinos in Singapore who want to avail of the programs may contact the ASKI Global office at 511 Guillemard Road (or Lor 44 Geylang at the back of the building) with telephone numbers 944-70786 (Irma) or 830-98144 (Marj).–Erwin S. Embuscado
