FORMER Dagupan City Police Chief Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, who was implicated as a protector of the illegal drug shabu laboratory which was busted in La Union in 2008, has been out of jail since February 1 after posting a bail bond of P1 million.

Borromeo, held without bail at the La Union provincial jail since he was arrested on May 8, 2009, was allowed by Municipal Trial Court Judge Rose Mary Molina-Alim to post a bail bond following a petition filed by Borromeo’s lawyer.

Alim issued a 13-page order stating that she issued the petition after she found “no strong evidence” to indict Borromeo on the case filed against him.

However, Borromeo’s co-respondents in the case, namely Dante Palaganas and Andy Tangalin, both caretakers of the shabu laboratory, will stay in jail after their petitions to post bail were denied based on the strong evidence against them.

Borromeo, also a former head of the Ilocos police Regional Mobile Group, was pointed as one the protectors of the shabu laboratory busted by lawmen in a raid on July 9, 2008 jointly conducted by elements of the La Union police, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Naguilian health office, and other law enforcement agencies in Barangay Upper Binmutubot, Naguillan, La Union.

At that time, Borromeo was chief of the Dagupan police.–LM
