LINGAYEN–Police Provincial Director Rosueto Ricaforte has given his guarantee that the police will not allow jueteng to resume in the province, including the guerrilla operations of the illegal numbers game.

Ricaforte said while the provincial police force have their hands full with other matters, monitoring jueteng operations remains a top priority for them.

He admitted that there are people who are attempting to re-start jueteng through guerilla operations but some of those involved, particularly the cabos, have been arrested.

Those arrested confessed that they are taking bets in some towns of Pangasinan but bring the collections to towns near the borders of Pangasinan with Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and La Union, according to Ricaforte.

Pangasinan is currently considered as the only province in the Ilocos Region without a numbers game as all the other provinces have Small Town Lotteries.

After Governor Amado Espino Jr.’s call for an all-out eradication of jueteng, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) endorsed the entry of STL that would be operated by a corporation franchised by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

The SP resolution has been forwarded to the PCSO, which has yet to give a reply to the provincial government.
