Cops seize arms cache

SUAL–The police seized four high-powered firearms with assorted ammunition and magazines in two simultaneous raids in the houses of suspected illegal gun holders in Barangay Pangascasan here last September 11.

The suspected gun owners, brothers Enrico Brudo and Elmer Brudo, both of Barangay Pangascasan, were also arrested.

The suspects’ houses were searched by the police with warrants issued by Judge Georgina Hidalgo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 68 in Lingayen.

Seized from the residence of Enrico were one M16 baby Armalite rifle (Elisco) with serial number RP 174899; one caliber .45 pistol (Armscor) with serial number 917147; one grease gun caliber .45 with serial number 153051; one magazine for caliber .45; one magazine for M16 rifle; one magazine for grease gun; five rounds of live ammunition for caliber .45 pistol; and 20 live ammunition for M16 rifle.

Confiscated from the house of Elmer were one Glock 17 caliber .45 pistol marked Austria with serial number CZV 304; one magazine for Glock pistol; one short magazine for M16 rifle; one long magazine for M16 rifle; 12 live ammunition for caliber .45 pistol; two live ammunition for caliber .380 pistol; one live ammunition for caliber .38 revolver; and one holster for caliber .45 pistol.

The searches, witnessed by barangay officials, were conducted by elements from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Intelligence Branch Special Operations Group and Task Force Hagibis, in coordination with Sual Police Station led by Police Superintendent Wilson Joseph F. Lopez.

It was the first major operation against firearm holders under the administration of Pangasinan Provincial Director Police Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte.

The suspects were charged in court for violation of Republic Act 1866 as amended by R.A. 8294 (illegal possession of firearms and ammunition).—LM
