Pista’y Dayat street dancing showcases local culture
THE Sayawan ed Aplaya street dancing competition, one of the main events in this year’s Pista’s Dayat celebration, revived interests in Pangasinan’s cultural treasures.
“Through music and dance, the event paved the way for the participants to promote Pangasinan’s best. It showcased not only Pangasinenses’ unique artistic talents and creativity but also our rich cultural heritage and traditions,” said Tourism Operations Division Chief Malu Elduayan.
The 18 contingents coming from different parts of the province, wearing colorful ethnic costumes, danced in revelry from the Capitol Plaza, Artacho, Poblacion to the Lingayen Beachfront.
Thousands of spectators, including local and foreign visitors, applauded and cheered the well-choreographed performances.
Nestor Quiambao, chair for the event, also said that “the festivity is a call for unity to protect and preserve the environment.”
All group participants were awarded with plaque of participation and cash amounting to P30,000 while certificates of appreciation were given to each groups’ coordinator.
Joining the street dancing parade were groups from the Police Provincial Office, Mangaldan Drum and Bugle Corps, Tribu Magayaga Street Dancers, Agno Mangalap Festival, Lingayen Bagoong Festival, Binmaley Sigay Festival, Urbiztondo Palay Festival, Magsaysay Drum and Lyre Corps, Capitol Kalesa, Bolinao Mangunguna Festival, Dagupan-Manguin, Umingan Kalabasa Festival, San Carlos City College Drum and Bugle Corps, Mapandan Pandan Festival and URC Robina.
