DBM warns against fixers

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has warned the public against fixers and fake documents for budgetary release that are being circulated by unscrupulous individuals and groups.

In a letter to heads of agencies and local government units in the Ilocos region, Director Janet Abuel said DBM Secretary Joaquin Lagonera has issued warning against people who want to make easy money out of fund releases for government projects.

Lagonera’s letter said fixers and bogus documents continue to thrive because there are still people who fall for the modus operandi.

“(Be) extra vigilant about fixers, fake documents and other irregularities in government transactions and refrain from dealing with anybody of dubious intent to facilitate release of funds,” Lagonera wrote.

He advised the public to always verify the authenticity of documents before engaging into contracts.

Authentic budgetary release documents issued by DBM contain a specific bar code, official seal and other confidential security features.

Abuel reiterated that all budgetary transactions should be undertaken directly with DBM through its regional offices for delegated agencies and local government units or through the Central Office for centralized and non-delegated agencies.
