Braille-student tops VMUF 2010 graduates

SAN CARLOS CITY–Minnie Aveline Juan, a visually-impaired student at the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) here, graduated at the top of the school’s batch 2010 graduates.

The 25-year old Juan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (BEEd) degree specializing in Special Education (SPED), finishing summa cum laude.

Minnie, the lone visually-impaired student among the graduating class, delivered the Message of Gratitude during the VMUF’s 52nd Commencement Exercises.

Her speech brought some of those in the audience to tears as she narrated the fears and unique struggles of someone who is handicapped as well as the determination to reach her goals.

Juan finished her special education in Braille at the Virgen Milagrosa Child Learning Center School for the Blind established in 1991 graduating valedictorian and a consistent honor student from first to fourth year high school at the Virgen Milagrosa Special Science High School.

She also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at the Trinity College of Quezon City, now Trinity University of Asia, graduating magna cum laude and class 2005 valedictorian.

Juan has been working as a special education teacher for other visually-impaired students enrolled in VMUF.
