CHILDREN LEAD KICK-OFF

STILT walkers, jugglers, unicyclists and a three-man acrobat group wowed the crowd during the April 16 parade along Arellano Street and A. B. Fernandez Avenue marking the grand opening of the 16-day Dagupan Bangus Festival 2010.

But the main attraction of the parade were the two popular child artists from the ABS-CBN TV network: Zaijan Jaramilla who is well-known for his role as “Santino” in “May Buhay Pa” and Erich Gonzales who has portrayed the role of a young mother in “Katorse”.

The presence of the two child stars was the highlight of the “Araw ng mga Bata”, the kick-off event for the revelry for Bangus Festival, after a special Friday morning Mass at the Saint John Metropolitan Cathedral.

Zaijan waved to the crowd as he stood beside Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez while Erich rode on the float, seated beside Mayor Alipio Fernandez.

The mayor, vice mayor and some councilors attended the Mass before proceeding to Sitio Korea in Bonuan Binloc for a breakfast feeding project.

The parade, which started at the premises of the University of Pangasinan, saw the participation of children of fishermen, including children of different nationalities who already made Dagupan their home.

Children from the Indian community received the most cheers when they appeared in the streets in their glowing gray country dresses.

The Food Strip along Zamora Street was opened after the parade where a famous band from Manila provided musical entertainment.—LM
