Penaflorida, Almario in RAP demofest
CNN 2009 Hero of the Year Efren Penaflorida underscored the importance of education during a demofest sponsored by the Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) held at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City on January 21 to 23.
The CNN hero, who initiated an education program for out-of school children in the streets, cited himself as an example for being one among many children who almost didn’t get any education when he was young because of financial difficulties but he decided to persevere to get his education.
“That was why I put up the education-on-wheels to be of help in my small way to those who want to have education,” Penaflorida said.
The keynote speaker for the event was National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario.
Aurora Samsom-Reyna, RAP national president, said the event proved to be a fruitful gathering for enthusiasts, researchers, academic practitioners and teachers of literacy education in Filipino and English.
