Another demolition slated in Sitio Russia

ANOTHER 30 houses in Sitio Russia, Bonuan Binloc will be demolished soon to give way to a wider road towards the Seafood Processing Plant, which is now undergoing construction.

Affected residents are not expected put up any resistance, unlike in the first demolition undertaken last year, and arrangements for relocation have been settled, according to Bonuan Binloc Barangay chairman Ronaldo Torio.

This second demolition is intended for the widening of the road leading to the plant to give big trucks bearing construction equipment easier access the processing plant.

Torio said Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. assured the 30 families living in the affected area that the demolition would only be undertaken after they have resettled in their respective units in row houses that will be built soon in Sitio Korea, Bonuan Binloc.

They will join 67 other families who were relocated there earlier from a big area in Sitio Russia where the main building of the Korean-funded Seafood Processing Plant is being constructed.

The relocation site, built by the city government, is provided with water and electricity, which the illegal settlers in Sitio Russia never had.

Meanwhile, the construction of the Seafood Processing Plant is now more than halfway through and the project is expected to be completed and inaugurated before the 2010 Bangus Festival in April.

At the same time, 120 residents of Sitio Korea and other parts of Bonuan Binloc will comprise the first batch to undergo training on fish processing through an initiative of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.—LM
