A STUDENT of La Marea Academy, Ma. Raniella Isabel Gutierrez, won a bronze medal in the 7th World WADO RHU Karate Championships held August 20 to 24  at Tokyo Budokan, Ayase Adachi-Ku, Japan.

Raniella was the only girl in Team Filipinas, which included Jeramiel Gutierrez, John Enrico Vasquez, Christian Judge Decano, Jayson Ramil Macaalay, and Jaime Macatbag.

Raniella, twice RP National Kumite Medalist, earned the respect of Japanese coaches with her fast jabs and timely reverse punch to stay on top on Bracket A and finished top three among thirty one entries in the 10 to 11 Girls KUMITE category.

Raniella is the only non-Japanese that earned medals in the children category.

Meanwhile, JohnEnrico Vasques, Jayson Ramil Macaalay, and Jeramiel Gutierrez lost to unfamiliarity with the New International revised KATA Rules.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez, Phil WADO Shihan said that Team Filipinas Wado Ryu is now preparing for the Asian KOI Karate Championships in Malaysia in December. The team will be under the Banner of the Philippine Karate-Do Federation (PKF).
