53 years of PUNCHing

JOURNALISM has evolved tremendously alongside technological innovations and global transformations over the more than half a century since our founder-editor, Ermin Garcia Sr., established The Sunday Punch.

We are proud to say that we have grown with the times, particularly in terms of extending our publication to the online media with our internet edition, serving as a link to the big community of Pangasinenses who are spread in different parts of the world.

But one thing has not changed: our paper’s core value of standing for the truth and serving the province through committed community journalism.

We consider our role both as a privilege and a responsibility. Not many community newspapers in the country has had the honor of  being in circulation for five decades and three years, surviving both the changes in the political landscape and the many economic challenges that impact on all privately-funded endeavors. We are humbled by this opportunity and we owe this to our loyal readers as well as our advertisers who maintain their patronage, continuously trusting us in the task of being the watchdog of Pangasinan society. We thank you. And as we celebrate another anniversary, we re-affirm our commitment to live up to the calls of fair and accurate reporting, well-meaning judgment, and maintaining credibility.

We have been witness to the successes and tragedies of Pangasinan; we have recorded accounts of men and women who have brought either pride or shame to our towns, cities and the province as a whole; we have been the bearers of both the good and the bad news; and we hope to continue take part in this continuing history. In doing so, our aim, always, is to be of service to our community. This is what the late Ermin Garcia Sr. envisioned 53 years ago, we honor his memory by carrying on with his dream.
